Yay, the big milestone at work is finally over, which means I can have more time to focus on this project.
I’m still on the integration of Vulkan, currently initiliazing the lib and all its subcomponents. It’s funny how close it is to DirectX 12. But if I have to choose, I’ll still choose Vulkan because of the broader community, and the fact that the specification and development of Vulkan is “open” (at least the spec, the implementations are all dependant of OS and graphic cards, like Nvidia, and Linus Torvalds has already told what we all think of Nvidia).
I haven’t start my blog post about Windows Runtime windowing API, I hope to tacle this subject soon, and I think that it might be interesting to do another post on Vulkan init and components. I can even generalize it to low level graphics, I think if DirectX 12 use the same approch (and maybe Metal too… I should check this before publishing the post).
I put myself deeper on Linux ecosystem at work, and it made me think of using it on my personnal system. Currently, the only thing that prevent me from migrating my personal laptop to Linux is the video games support. But with Valve pushing Proton, this is less and less a blocker for changing it. Fun fact too : Microsoft just reveal its future of computing with their brand new Surface Pro and Surface laptop, which are niiiiiice… unless they revealed Copilot+.
Could major companies stop shoving up “AI” everywhere ? I mean, I’m not against AI, but I think that it should be used on smaller levels or on specific domains and datasets. And never if it jeopardize the work of real human being (artists, developers, community managers…). Ok “AI” is cool and everything (except that it’s dumb as hell), bu what’s the next step ? Taking pictures of everything I do ? What ? Microsoft Recall ? checks it out.
Hahahahahaha ! They actually did it. You agree to let a software installed at root level on your OS take a f…ing record of your screen just so the “AI” could help you, and you have to trust Microsoft that the computing of those images are only made locally.
Fuck no.
Make it completely opensource and leave us the possibility to enable it if we want (wink wink Windows Update and Windows Defender which are mandatory now), and maybe, maybe, I’ll reconsider my position.
I think I’ll avoid the Copilot+ laptops and everything that bundles this piece of shit. If it democratize itself (and given the hype of putting AI everywhere, I’m confident it will), I’ll switch to Linux for all my laptops.
